SUPPORT LACONIA’S
RIVERWALK
WITH A PIECE OF THE PAST
Historic cobblestones from Water and Messer Streets dating
from 1904 are available for purchase. Each cobblestone comes with a signed
certificate of authenticity. Buy yours today for a tax-deductible donation of
$25.00. The cobblestones are available for purchase at the Belknap Mill, which
is located in downtown Laconia.
You may call them at 603-524-8813 for more information.

You can read about the cobblestones in the 1905 Town Report.
There is an excerpt below but the entirety of the text is included in the
certificate of authenticity, which accompanies each cobblestone.
“About 300 ft. in length of the easterly end of Water Street has
been regulated and paved with granite blocks set on a foundation of six inches
of cement concrete. This work consisted of rebuilding the street drain,
building four new catchbasins, removing 307 yds. of grade, setting 520 ft. of
new granite curb, 424 yds. of
concrete sidewalks and 648 yds. of
block paving. The larger part of this work was done by this department and
while I know that the work was carried out as economically as was possible
under the circumstances, I am sure, that with sufficient money to have paved
half the street or more, the unit cost of the work could have been very largely
reduced. The cost of the work was $3,102.01.”
The Riverwalk is a
project that is being proposed by the City of Laconia, the Main Street Program, and many
local businesses. Please help in supporting this project.
